FAQs

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, considering a revision, or simply exploring your options, we understand you likely have a lot of questions. From breast reconstruction to cosmetic surgery and sensation restoration, this page answers some of the most common questions we hear from patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between implant-based and natural tissue breast reconstruction?
Implant-based reconstruction uses synthetic materials, while natural tissue (also called autologous) reconstruction uses your own tissue to create a warm, natural-looking breast. At PRMA, we specialize in natural tissue procedures like the DIEP flap, which offers long-term results without implant-related complications.
Can breast sensation really be restored after a mastectomy?
Yes. Through our exclusive TruSense® technique, PRMA is pioneering ways to restore sensation during reconstruction. While results vary, many patients report regaining meaningful feeling over time—a major step forward in post-mastectomy care.
What makes PRMA’s High Def DIEP® and TruSense® procedures different from traditional DIEP flap surgery?
Our High Def DIEP® offers enhanced aesthetic shaping for more natural curves and symmetry. TruSense® goes a step further by restoring sensation. Combined with our dual-surgeon approach, these innovations set a new standard in breast reconstruction outcomes.
I’ve already had implant reconstruction, but I’m not happy with the results—can PRMA help?
Absolutely. We are nationally recognized for converting failed implant reconstructions into successful natural tissue results. Whether you're experiencing discomfort, complications, or cosmetic concerns, we can help you explore your options for revision.
How long is the recovery after natural tissue reconstruction, and what can I expect?
Most patients stay in the hospital for 2–3 days and return to light activity in 2–3 weeks. Full recovery may take 6–8 weeks, depending on your procedure and personal healing. PRMA supports you with detailed recovery plans, nurse follow-ups, and long-term care.
Does PRMA accept insurance, and do you work with out-of-state patients?
Yes! PRMA is insurance-friendly and experienced in helping patients navigate coverage. We routinely care for women from across the U.S. and offer resources to make travel and recovery as smooth and affordable as possible.
What types of cosmetic procedures does PRMA offer in addition to reconstruction?
While breast reconstruction is our primary focus, we also offer select cosmetic procedures, including breast lifts, body contouring, and scar revisions, often tailored for patients recovering from cancer treatment.
How soon after my mastectomy can I have reconstruction, and does it have to be immediate?
Reconstruction can be performed at the same time as your mastectomy (immediate) or delayed until after other treatments. Both options are available at PRMA, and we’ll help you decide what’s best for your medical needs and personal goals.
